Cornerstone’s Artist of the Month for June 2015
Jesus “Zeus” Martinez is a photographer from right here in Camp Hill.
He enjoys traveling and spending time with his four children (and photographing it all!), and is also always happy to offer his services to others who would like portrait or event photography done, or who are just looking for an interesting photograph to hang on their wall.
Below is a recent Q&A with Jesus Martinez.
Tell us briefly about your background & how you got started in your medium.
A shutterbug most of my life who has always enjoyed taking photos of family and friends, I turned this hobby into a serious study in 2010 and now shoots both event and portrait photography throughout the Midstate and beyond. I am a member of the Art Association of Harrisburg, and freelance for MODE Magazine and HarrisburgPA.com. I’ve had my work exhibited in several local galleries and venues, including the DOSHI Gallery for Contemporary Art, the 3rd Street Gallery in New Cumberland, the Gallery on 2nd in Harrisburg, the Charley Krone Gallery in New Cumberland, and the Dauphin County Courthouse.
How does your medium inform your viewpoint? Or what do you like most about your medium?
When I present my work for galleries I print on metallic paper or sheets of aluminum.
Who or what have been your artistic inspirations?
Many photographers like Rick Sammon and other people have been in a inspiration in my artwork…..But best of all my kids have been there to see me capture these moments in time.
Do you have a favorite piece in your portfolio?
No…They are all my favorites..
What would be your advice to artists just starting out in your medium?
Keep working at it and find your own style and shoot shoot shoot…
