We recently did an artist interview with Linda McCurdy, our Artist of the Month for September 2018. During this month, Irene’s pieces decorated the walls of the Cornerstone Coffeehouse.
Tell us briefly about your background & how you got started in your medium.
I have been interested in drawing and painting from an early age. After attending Art School I began to paint more and have devoted most of my life to it. I like painting in Acrylic for it’s versatility, fast drying and the ability to blend with other mediums.
How does your medium inform your viewpoint? Or what do you like most about your medium?
As a water-based paint, acrylics can be used as a watercolor technique or thicker on canvas.
Who or what have been your artistic inspirations?
My Artistic inspirations of course are all of Nature and Artists such as Andrew Wyeth and the Impressionists.
Do you have a favorite piece in your portfolio?
Favorite paintings are of several landscapes depicting places I have hiked or visited.
What would be your advice to artists just starting out in your medium?
My advice to Artists getting started in Acrylic would be to practice different techniques to discover your style and paint what you love!
p.s. I also enjoy painting in water color, coffee and pastel switching it up from time to time, depending on the subject and my mood.
