Cornerstone’s Artist of the Month for March 2020
Below is a recent Q&A with Mary Ann Byrne-Walker.
Tell us briefly about your background & how you got started in your medium.
Although my education and career is in the medical field I have painted my whole life. Oils were only in the last 10 years. I actually use Watersoluble Oils now. I got started with them because of travel and painting plein air. I haven’t gone back to traditional oils since.
How does your medium inform your viewpoint? Or what do you like most about your medium?
I like that my medium can be as thin as watercolor or applied thick. I like the ease of its use and that there are less chemicals.
Who or what have been your artistic inspirations?
Travel scenery, hiking views, rocks and water.
Do you have a favorite piece in your portfolio?
Anything with water and rocks.
What would be your advice to artists just starting out in your medium?
As Nike would say…Just do it!

Your art looks absolutely beautiful in the coffee house.
Thanks so much Sue!
